After an early pickup from your Mombasa hotel, drive north along the Mombasa–Nairobi highway toward Tsavo East National Park. The park lies about 153 km inland; the road trip takes roughly 2½–3 hours. By late morning you’ll enter Tsavo East and start your day spotting various wildlife. This luxury tented camp sits deep in the bush with its own waterhole.
After the morning guided game drive, head tour your hotel for lunch, check in and relaxation at camp. After a brief relaxation and refreshment, head out on an afternoon game drive. Expect classic Tsavo scenes: large bull elephants dyed red with dust, huge buffalo herds grazing the savannah, plus sightings of lion, giraffe and plains game. As sunset approaches, return to your hotel for dinner and overnight stay.Awake before dawn for a morning game drive in Tsavo East. Enjoy cool, golden light on the plains and riverbeds – this is prime time to spot wildlife such as elephants, zebra, kudu and perhaps a leopard by its rocky hideout. Return to camp for brunch, then depart mid-morning for the nearby Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary. The drive is short, taking you into scenic, hilly terrain.
You will arrive at the Taita Hills Sanctuary by midday in time for lunch, check in and relaxation. In the afternoon, explore the sanctuary with a private game drive. The Taita Hills are lush and green, a critical wildlife corridor – roughly 12,000 elephants roam between Tsavo East and West through this area. Look for large bulls and even the rare Rothschild’s giraffe that sometimes visit. Later in the afternoon, return to hotel for dinner and overnight.After breakfast, set off westward toward Tsavo West National Park. The drive takes about 2–3 hours. Plan a stop at Mzima Springs en route. Here crystal-clear spring pools fed by Chyulu Hills volcanic aquifers offer a unique wildlife spectacle – hippos and crocodiles can be seen through underwater viewing tanks. Enjoy a walk along the springs and river. After Mzima, continue to your hotel in Tsavo West. You will check in and lunch at this classic lodge, then head out for an afternoon game drive. Tsavo West’s mixed terrain of woodlands and swamps is home to animals like buffalo, waterbuck, eland and southern black rhino. You will also visit the Shetani Lava Flow – a surreal expanse of jagged black volcanic rock. This “devil’s lava” field, about 500 years old, stretches for many kilometers and provides a dramatic contrast to the park’s golden plains. In the cool evening light the lava field’s textures are spectacular for photos. Later return to your hotel for dinner and overnight stay.
After breakfast, depart Tsavo West and head north to Amboseli. The 4 hour drive takes you through foothills toward the Rift Valley escarpment. Arrive in Amboseli by early afternoon in time for check in and lunch.
In the late afternoon, venture into Amboseli on a game drive. This park is famed for its giant elephant families that gather in the marshes. As the sun sets, soak in one of the most iconic views; the broad Amboseli plains with Kilimanjaro’s summit glowing pink. After your evening game drive, return to your hotel for dinner and a restful night.After breakfast, spend the day exploring every corner of Amboseli. Take an early morning game drive when animals congregate at the marshes; you’ll see huge bulls, moms with calves and playful juveniles. Look also for lion on stalks of zebra or wildebeest.
Later in the afternoon, enjoy your packed lunch inside the park. After lunch, hike up Observation Hill from the summit enjoy a panoramic 360° view of Amboseli. From here, you can spot herds of elephants, and the breathtaking views of the Amboseli plains backed by snow-capped Kilimanjaro. This hill provides an aerial-like perspective of the park’s mosaic of marshes and acacia woodlands. Descend for an afternoon game drive in different zones of the park. Later in the evening, enjoy your dinner and overnight at your hotel.After breakfast, depart Amboseli for the drive back to Nairobi, roughly 4 hours. En route you may stop for lunch or stretching breaks as needed.
You’ll arrive in Nairobi by late afternoon, at which point services end. Drop-off at city hotel or airport as arranged.
